{"id":911,"date":"2009-03-16T12:43:54","date_gmt":"2009-03-16T20:43:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hodakvalue.com\/blog\/?p=911"},"modified":"2009-05-09T19:53:23","modified_gmt":"2009-05-10T03:53:23","slug":"the-president-of-the-united-states-doesnt-want-you-to-get-your-bonus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hodakvalue.com\/blog\/the-president-of-the-united-states-doesnt-want-you-to-get-your-bonus\/","title":{"rendered":"The President of the United States doesn&#8217;t want you to get your bonus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You have to hand it to AIG.\u00a0 I teach a <a href=\"http:\/\/74.125.95.132\/search?q=cache:Ou0vs3ULM2sJ:w4.stern.nyu.edu\/emplibrary\/Hodak%2520Scandal%2520B65.2177Fall%252008.doc\">History of Scandal<\/a> class to warn my dear MBA charges how to learn from past mistakes, avoid trouble, sidestep the pitfalls.\u00a0 It&#8217;s as if AIG senior executives took my class, then reversed all of the lessons in order to more efficiently get embroiled.\u00a0 Today, they find themselves on the front pages for <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB123715965204435363.html?mod=article-outset-box\">not one<\/a>, but <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB123721970101743003.html#mod=testMod\">two separate scandals<\/a>.\u00a0 One of them has to do <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/newsOne\/idUSTRE52F4P820090316\">with bonuses<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>President Barack Obama voiced outrage on Monday over large bonus payments awarded to top employees of insurer AIG and ordered his treasury secretary to legally block them if possible.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I understand the outrage, <a href=\"http:\/\/hodakvalue.com\/blog\/?p=894\">really<\/a>, even though I cleanly lost the race of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2009\/03\/15\/pelosi-mcconnell-feingold_n_175131.html\">first to be angry<\/a>, partly because my understanding of &#8220;bonus&#8221; doesn&#8217;t include guaranteed, fixed compensation, which appears to be the subject of this report.<\/p>\n<p>So, when the President of the United States says he doesn&#8217;t want you to get your money, what does that mean?\u00a0 The article was careful to include &#8220;legally block them if possible,&#8221;
