{"id":326,"date":"2008-11-01T11:35:25","date_gmt":"2008-11-01T19:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hodakvalue.com\/blog\/?p=326"},"modified":"2008-11-01T11:35:25","modified_gmt":"2008-11-01T19:35:25","slug":"practical-definition-ask","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hodakvalue.com\/blog\/practical-definition-ask\/","title":{"rendered":"Practical definition:  Ask"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a rally yesterday where Senator Obama promised all sorts of goodies to the crowd, <a href=\"http:\/\/thepage.time.com\/obamas-prepared-remarks-for-sarasota-florida-rally\/\">he said<\/a> that as president:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I&#8217;ll help pay for this by asking the folks who are making more than $250,000 a year to go back to the tax rate they were paying in the 1990s<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He&#8217;ll <em>ask<\/em> them?<\/p>\n<p>What if they don&#8217;t all accept his request?  Oh, yeah.  In political new-speak, &#8220;ask&#8221; doesn&#8217;t mean &#8220;request,&#8221; it means an request you can&#8217;t refuse.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what I don&#8217;t get.  There is probably not a single person in the crowd who would really mistake &#8220;ask&#8221; for &#8220;force&#8221; in this context.
