{"id":2825,"date":"2011-01-23T15:02:39","date_gmt":"2011-01-23T23:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hodakvalue.com\/blog\/?p=2825"},"modified":"2011-01-23T16:46:41","modified_gmt":"2011-01-24T00:46:41","slug":"the-bank-that-pays-the-most","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hodakvalue.com\/blog\/the-bank-that-pays-the-most\/","title":{"rendered":"The bank that pays the most&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;performs the best.\u00a0 At least that was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fins.com\/Finance\/Articles\/SB129553228868177791\/Morgan-Increases-Staff-Pay-and-Bonus-Deferrals?Type=0\">surprise finding about Morgan Stanley in 2010<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Morgan Stanley,  the come-from-behind champion of 2010 league tables, was one of the few  bulge-bracket banks to swell both ranks and pay last year.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The  firm added 2,048 workers, a 3.4% increase, while setting aside an  additional $1.6 billion, or 11%, to pay its staff, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.morganstanley.com\/about\/ir\/earnings_releases.html\" target=\"_blank\">its earnings release<\/a> this morning.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The average Morgan Stanley employee took home $256,596, up 7.5% from $238,602 in 2009. The bank was more generous than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fins.com\/Finance\/Articles\/SB129495257228775975\/Morgan-Stanley-to-Bump-up-Pay-While-Goldman-and-JPMorgan-Cut\" target=\"_self\">analysts had expected<\/a>. Rivals Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fins.com\/Finance\/Articles\/SB129544311052277393\/Goldman-Loses-Gloss-Profit-Pay-Slide\" target=\"_self\">trimmed per-worker pay<\/a> in 2010.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Obviously, one can&#8217;t generalize to say that any firm that bumps up its pay is bound to bump up its performance.\u00a0 But in a year where the competition for talent in financial services took a back seat to looking good for the regulators and media, Morgan Stanley competed more aggressively, and, well I&#8217;m just saying&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;performs the best.\u00a0 At least that was the surprise finding about Morgan Stanley in 2010: Morgan Stanley, the come-from-behind champion of 2010 league tables, was one of the few bulge-bracket banks to swell both ranks and pay last year.
